Project NO!

Dave is no longer doing projects at the moment, because his wife is stealing him away for her mile long list that has been on the back burner since he has been doing projects for other people.  This is his hobby, he has a job as an Account Executive for a company that takes 10 hours of his time daily.  Along with him busy at work and his wife needing his mad skills it just is too much for him, and ya know it's nice to sneak some couch potato time every once in awhile!

Wong project

I meant to post these pictures awhile back, here are the "AFTER" pictures of the Wong project.  I like how the cabinets turned out!  He did a two book cases and a wet bar for the Wong project.  The lighting in there was a little tricky so hopefully it's true to the color of the wood.

I couldn't get a picture from straight on but there are the book cases!

Wong Project

Dave is now working on a project for our friend's in our neighborhood!  They are having him make some bookcases and a cabinet for their basement they are finishing.  I still haven't had a chance to see their space or take a picture of it but that will come soon ;)  Here are a few sneak peaks:

Here is what our garage looks like

applying wood conditioner

I had a hard time get the lighting right in this garage, so some of the pictures look like a whole different color of stain, but this one above is more true to the color.

I can't wait to see them all installed!

Our New TV stand!

Yes we took a very long break from remodeling!!  BUT now Dave is getting into furniture!  He is awesome and I am so lucky to have such a talented guy!!!  He learns how to make everything he does himself.  He has never done it for a job.  I can not find the pictures of him in the process of making the cabinet!  So when I do I will post them, but here is what we had for a TV stand before and what we have now!

LOL that's pretty nasty! and very SAD, this TV stand came from Walmart, we got it about five years ago!

Dave made this TV stand!

WOW so much better! Makes a big difference!

The Frisby Project

We had an incident with our great dane on the family room carpet, so we needed to transition to hardwood floors (which was in our plans for the future anyway) ....Dave got this idea that he wanted to make a hardwood floor himself, so he tried to get me to agree to just buying the wood he found on KSL.com from an old barn....WHAT?  ARE YOU CRAZY???  Yes we are, but I am NOT that crazy, I had NO idea how planing an old barn's wood would look??  So I made him buy sheets of Maple and he began to plane and whatever it took to turn those sheets into beautiful pieces of hardwood planks!  And that's how we got to this point...my parent's LOVED our hardwood floors so they had to top us off and have DAVE do theirs...and of course it was topped!!!  Dave just gets better and better!  And I am amazed each time...so here are a few pics of what he has done so far...this is not with the sanding or polyurethane, those pics to come soon!!!

Dave loading up the WOOD!!!
These bags are filled full of little pieces of wood for the border.

Lets play Jenga! ;)

Say "Goodbye" RED wall!

When we first moved in to our house, a little over three years ago, we painted the back wall in our family room RED! It was cool, BUT I got a little tired of it, so I painted it the green that we have through out most of our house. Here it is:

Before

During (The priming stage)

After( I know this is a crappy picture!)

Make it from "Scratch"

How many people can say they took sheets of Maple, cut them down, planed them, make the tongue & groove and end up making their own hardwood planks? DAVE can! I didn't think it was possible, I didn't believe (that's how I felt on a few projects, especially because he has never done it before!) and I thought this project would last a year!

That was not the case!!! Dave cut the wood in about two weeks and came up with his own border idea and finished the hardwood in our family room in about a little over a month! I LOVE it!!! Good job Dave!

These two pictures are the "Befores" of the family room
Say goodbye to our nasty tan carpet!!

A few of the sheets of Maple

This is where it starts to look more like planks.

Here is where Dave did his own tongue & groove!

Pictures of thee "After"

Don't mind the absence of base boards, those come next! The stairs and border are brazillian cherry wood (that's what our Kitchen floors are made of so they could match) What do you think?

The Tile Mile Update

Believe it or not, but the two pictures below are the same bathroom space! We tore out the wall in between the toilet and bathtub, tiled the whole bathroom and added a nice claw foot tub.

A close-up of the tile, Dave designed the look.

During (It is almost finished)

Coming soon...

So you thought we were done, right? HARDLY!!! We have been busy at the Glass House doing quite a few projects all at once. Yes I said we weren't be one of those types who would do more than one project at once but we HAVE to get it done.

Ongoing projects:

The Mile Tile update: you will die when I post the picture tonight of this project, Dave is amazing, he tiled the bathroom walls, floor and it is near the end! FINALLY!!! I just need to paint the walls, and he needs to seal the tile...and build the vanity (but that takes only a second for DAVE) BUT I can't wait any longer to keep the secret going!!! I am going to post a picture of it tonight even though we still have some things to finish up.

Family room HARDWOOD Floors: Dave is crazy!!! But still amazing, he wanted to find hardwood floors around $1/sq foot, but of course that's impossible!!! He did find one place a few months ago, but found out it went out of business..so Dave decided to buy sheets of Maple, and make his own planks and tongue and groove...I thought it was impossible, in fact I thought it would take him months and months, it only took him 2 WEEKS to make all the planks, now he is getting ready to lay the floor SOON!!! Pictures will be posted in a few weeks.

HAIR SALON: YAY, now we're getting somewhere!!! Dave finally finished the vanity for my Salon sink, and it ROCKS! Well, I still have to stain it, but that's easy! WE just need flooring and walls, and then we can hook it up LOL...I will post a pic tonight of the sink and cabinet.

Look forward to a few pictures tonight, you'll LOVE it!!!

Dave is going to be laying hardwood floors down at my parent's house, he charges a few dollars a sq foot, so if you ever want hardwood, just ask DAVE!!!

Dave teaches himself to make awesome cabinets!!!

The In-laws Project update: Dave has finished the cabinets/book cases for the in-law's family room and they turned out AWESOME!!! It makes me jealous that I don't have anything like it right now, but soon I will since I have a built-in cabinet maker ;) Here is how they turned out-

Here is a picture of the whole room, I had troubles getting a good picture! But eventually there will be a flat screen above the fireplace and new carpet.

16 hours straight and 50 hours total in 3 1/2 days!

The Blanding project was a HUGE project! It wore us out so much that I swear our arms needed to be amputated!!! The original paint color was what I call DIRT with a hint of yellow/off-white! We first primed three bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen, including the kitchen cabinets, and 5 built-in cabinets through out the house, then we painted the walls with an off-white paint, which really looked WHITE to me. Not only did we paint we had a tiling project in the bathroom!!! 33 hours in 2 1/2 days was CRAZY! But we did it, we have to go down one more time to do some finish up work....but the pay was awesome!! Was it worth it? You guess that one! I did have to keep myself on Ibuprofen the whole time!
